And the Chiro says....

All is good! The various aches and pains Ive been having are all normal.

Interestingly, the shin splints are a normal part of the training according to my doc. I just need to vary the routes, and run only when there is no pain, so as long as I control it, I can deal with it.

So I went running last night and had one of the most awesome runs I have had so far with all this training! My normal 9 KM route and I think in good enough timing however I am not worried about the times yet.

I'll be adding 2 KM's per week to my training and aiming for a marathon by october :D

From next year I'll start getting my running times down as well as increasing the distance's so I can make the Comrades next year, and finish in good health!

30 June 2009 - Slow 9 km's run

I had a slow run tonight. Nothing physically wrong, just not in the right zone.

Going to see the Chiro tomorrow and get the legs checked out.

Hold Thumbs that I can carry on extending the distance :) Even if its slow...

It was a war out there tonight...

The run began calmly enough from my lofty perch above the sea, the run down the hill very pleasant, very... easy. A mild breeze caressed me as my day flashed through my mind and I looked forward to a calming run.

How wrong I was.

Getting to the beach road was easy and then I saw the see. Fuming. High tide and pounding seas pushing up the beach. I was entranced. And as I ran past the beach I the quiet narrow tree lined road beckoned me. Its velvety darkness called.

Feeling strong, and injury free, I gladly ran into this deception.

All of a sudden the wind was everywhere, blowing the trees around me. The quietness became danger. The darkness no longer velvet but cold. The surf was pounding to my right as I ran on. And then it happened, I was attacked. It hit my hip a glancing blow, and my heart pounded until I saw the little fruit skidding away.

The bats were out in full force and I feared for my neck, there was someone running beside me, until I saw it was my shadow. The moon, an eye opening glaring at me, waiting for me to trip before it pounced.

As I turned the halfway point the wind took its turn. The southerly knew I was now against it, and went all out to stop me.

But I pounded away and made it through that narrow street of imaginary terror, past the beach willing to snatch me away into the dark sea, and toward the safety of home. But the run was not over.

The wind died down as I neared the hill. And the first part of the hill played its usual battle of steepness but I beat it, and halfway up the wind knew it was on a winning side and helped push me up the rest of the way.

The thrill to have defeated my imaginary fears, and still clocked 48 minutes for 9km’s, was fantastic!

16 June 2009 - 9 KM's, whopper hill not so whopper...

Tonight was a good run. My first 9 KM in this set of training, and I kept to a good pace, no major pains, and the most wonderful smells!

For some reason along one stretch, everyone seemed to be cooking the most delicious smelling meals...

That all spurned me on to get to the whopper hill. I made it a long way up before needing to walk, so can feel the fitness creaping back.

My time was good too. 2 extra km's and only 5 more minutes than the 7 km run last week.

Im feeling great!

18 June 2009 - 7 KM's and choppers!

A lovely run was had this evening! Jogging down the beach road in La lucia, having two military helicopters and one other plane flying overhead landing was just very pretty!

I ended up running the distance in 45 minutes, although a lot of time was spent jogging slowly staring at the flying machines :)

The run probably would have been closer to 40 minutes, which is more in the time I would expect for myself whennot confronted with whopper hills...

16 June 2009 - 7 KM's and a WHOPPER Hill

Apologies for the late post...

Yesterday I ran a 7km run. Starting off at the top of a hill the run down was great. Beautiful calm morning watching the sun rise of the sea, and the fisherman way down there...

Halfway mark and turned back, to be confronted by the same hill.

120 meters (394 feet) at its highest, and only 1 km to get up there. Its a WHOPPER. I made about 15 meters before my legs were aching, my lungs gasping for air and I had to walk a lot.

The time, 44 minutes... so a big jump in time, but a big jump in hill too.

This will get some fitness going

11 June 2009 - 5 KM's and a tip...

The first half of my run this evening was fantastic.

Body felt good, except for my left shin which seems to be getting a shin splint... need to monitor this carefully.

And a tip, don't eat eggs a few hours before a run... the second half was running toward the first toilet I could find.
